The 2020 New England Patriots endured an up-and-down season that ended with a 7-9 record – their first sub-.500 record since 2000. While quarterback Cam Newton battled to establish consistency in the passing game, his rushing prowess landed him in the Patriots record books. To preserve that history, The Hall has acquired his helmet from the 2020 season to go with game-worn cleats and the jersey he wore in a Week 1 win over the Dolphins, which also marked the Patriots first in their new uniform design that was more of a spin-off of the Color Rush jerseys worn in the past.
During his 2020 season in New England, Newton set new franchise records in various categories including:
- Single-season rushing attempts by a QB (137 attempts)
- Single-season rushing yards by a QB (592 yards)
- Single-game rushing attempts by a QB (15 attempts)
- Longest run from scrimmage by a QB (49 yards)
- First QB with TD reception
- TIED – Single-season rushing TDs by a QB (12 TDs)
While making an immediate impact on Patriots history, Newton also continued his climb up NFL charts. He set new NFL records in various categories including:
- First QB with double-digit rushing TDs in 3-plus seasons
- Most multi-rushing TD games in a season by a QB (4)
- Most multi-rushing TD games in a career by a QB (10)
- First QB to reach both 30,000 passing yards and 5,000 rushing yards
- PREVIOUSLY ACCOMPLISHED – Most rushing TDs by a QB (70 TDs)
- PREVIOUSLY ACCOMPLISHED – Most rushing First Downs by a QB (414)
- PREVIOUSLY ACCOMPLISHED – Most Games with Passing + Rushing TD by a QB (42)
To catalog the milestones and records No. 1 earned this season, The Hall has received three pairs of game-worn cleats which Newton wore in games against the Raiders, Texans, and Cardinals, a game-worn home jersey from Week 1 against the Dolphins, and the helmet Newton wore throughout the 2020 season. These items are now on display at The Hall!
